Hawks Advance to GLVC Semifinals With 3-0 Win

QUINCY, Ill. -  The Quincy University women's soccer team won its 10th straight game with a 3-0 victory over UIS in the GLVC Tournament Quarterfinal Sunday (Oct. 29) afternoon.

The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders on the offensive end, tallying four shots in the first eight minutes of action.

In the 11th minute, Gabby Orlando (St. Charles, MO / Francis Howell) sent a long, high arcing pass into the box.  The ball bounced over a Springfield defender and settled at the feet of Cassidy Foley (Quincy, IL / Quincy Notre Dame).

Foley ripped her shot from nine-yards away into the top of the goal to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

The Hawks offense did not slow down, as the Hawks took eight more shots in the next 11 minutes.  The Hawks best chance to extend the lead came when Mackenzie Rief's (Wentzville, Mo./ St. Dominic) header hit the post and bounced away.

The Prairie Stars were limited to just three shots in the first half.  The lone shot on goal came from outside the 18-yard box and Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./ St. Dominic) easily made the play.

Swanson was tested in the 46th minute but kept the lead 1-0 with her second save of the game.

In the 63rd minute, after a Quincy foul just outside of the 18-yard box UIS lined up for a free kick.  Madisyn Coudriet put her free kick on goal and the shot got by Swanson.  Mo Rooney (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) cleared the ball just before it crossed the end line and would have tied the game at 1-1.

The Hawks extended their lead in te 86th minute.

Natalie Quisenberry (St. Louis, MO / Lafayette) sent a long free kick into the box and Rooney redirected the ball passed the UIS goal to put the Hawks up 2-0.  It was Rooney's first goal of the season.

Two minutes later Maddie Bauer (O'Fallon, MO / St. Dominic) scored to put the Hawks up 3-0 and secure the Hawks GLVC quarterfinal win.

QU now sits at 16-2 on the season and will travel to Indianapolis for the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament.

The Hawks will battle Bellarmine Friday as QU looks for its third GLVC Tournament crown since 2012.
