Howley holds the distinction of scoring the 1,000th goal in the history of the Quincy men’s soccer program., during a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Alderson-Broaddus in the 1979 NAIA Tournament. Howley was a solid contributor for the Hawks as a four-year starter, a tri-captain his senior year and earning a mention in the program’s Top 25 of the First 25 Years. As a senior, Howley scored 12 goals to go with five assists. He was voted the team’s best midfielder in 1979 and was an NAIA All-District 20 performer and All-Illinois selection in 1978. Howley was a draft choice of the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Cleveland Force in 1980.
