QUINCY, Ill. – The Hawks baseball team dropped the third game of the GLVC Tournament to the Bellarmine Knights Saturday (May 12). The Knights defeated the Hawks 13-4.
Play by Play:
The Knights got on the board first as a few Hawks miscues allowed for a pair of runs to score and give Bellarmine a 2-0 lead.
The Hawks responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a pair of doubles by JC DeMuri and Michael Nielsen.
The Knights pushed across a run in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-2 lead.
A two-run inning for Bellarmine in the top of the sixth extended the lead to 6-2 over the Hawks.
Jeff Hightower got the Hawks offense going in the bottom of the sixth. With a runner on, Hightower lifted a deep home run over the center field wall to cut the Knights lead to 6-4.
Bellarmine again extended its lead in the top of the eighth with three runs on four hits to take a 9-4 lead over the Hawks.
In the top of the ninth, the Knights pushed across four runs in the frame and extended their lead to 13-4.
The Hawks were held in check by Bellarmine starter Alex Philips, who allowed four runs on eight hits in his complete-game win over QU.
