Hawks Fall to McKendree in GLVC Championship

QUINCY, Ill. -  The Quincy University women's soccer team fell to McKendree 3-0 Sunday morning to the Bearcats in the GLVC championship game.

The intensity was high from the opening kickoff between the Hawks and the Bearcats.

Both teams played fast and physical for the first 20 minutes of action, but neither team could muster a clean look at the opponents' goal.

In the 22nd minute, Jane Skaggs of McKendree took a shot from 30 yards out that just dropped below the crossbar to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.

Both teams kept the offensive pace high despite the wet conditions.

The Hawks nearly tied the game in the final seconds of the first half as Riley Hayes (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) shot was saved by a diving Zoe Brochu.

The half time buzzer sounded and the Hawks trailed the Bearcats 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of action.

In the 49th minutes of action, a long shot by the Bearcats was saved by Megan Swanson but the ball trickled away from her outstretched hands.

On the rebound, Alynnah O'Leary put her shot away to give McKendree a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks were able to get several looks at goal but were unable to cut into the Bearcats lead.

With the Hawks forced to be aggressive in the final 10 minutes of game time a long ball got behind the Hawks defense.

The McKendree forward was able to side-step Swanson and extend the lead to 3-0.

QU could not find the back of the net in the final eight minutes of play and fell to the Bearcats 3-0.

McKendree defended their GLVC tournament title after bringing home the GLVC title last season.

The Hawks are now 16-3-1 on the season.

QU will find out its NCAA Tournament seeding tomorrow (Nov. 5 at 5 p.m.).
