Women's Soccer Season Ends in GLVC Quarterfinal

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's soccer team saw its season come to a close as No. 15 Rockhurst scored two second-half goals to claim a 2-0 win in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament quarterfinals in Kansas City, Mo. on Sunday (Hawktober 30) afternoon.

Quincy (6-10-2) will miss the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in 11 seasons under head coach Dave Musso. Rockhurst (16-1-2) was the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament while QU was the No. 7 seed.

Rockhurst led in shots, 35-6, including a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Megan Swanson (St. Charles, Mo./St. Dominic) made 12 saves in the game and the QU defense cleared two other shots off the line.

The hosts got on the board in the 58th minute as Kaley Neiters tucked her 16-yard shot inside the left post off passes by Kristin Wolff and Courtney Silberberg. Rockhurst doubled its lead four minutes later as Wolff scored her seventh goal of the season. Neiters and Meghan Kilkenny had the assists.

Freshman midfielder Mo Rooney (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word) and sophomore forward Cassidy Foley (Quincy, Ill./Quincy Notre Dame) had two shots apiece to lead Quincy.

With the win, Rockhurst advanced to the GLVC Tournament Championships in Indianapolis Nov. 5-7. All four home teams – Truman, Rockhurst, Missouri-St. Louis and McKendree – won Sunday's quarterfinal matches.
