Peterson Lifts Hawks with 13 K's in GLVC Tournament

WESTFIELD, Ind. - The top seeded Quincy University baseball team put the ball in the hands of Jake Peterson to start the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament and he delivered with a career-best performance in a complete game shutout against Missouri S&T.  Peterson recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts allowing just two hits and two walks.  Only two S&T runners reached second against the QU lefty and none advanced to third base.

Jake Peterson (W, 5-4) had a no hitter through the first three innings of play.  The Hawks (37-14) provided plenty of support offensively for Peterson.

Aaron Bedsworth (L, 6-4) allowed three earned runs on nine hits in six innings.  The Miners (25-25) went to Dan Borek in the seventh.  Borek allowed two earned runs in an inning and a third and Devin Muir finished the final two defensive outs of the game for S&T.

Brynn Martinez led off his first postseason game as a Hawk with a single to left field.  Kory Wisdom followed with a single to center.  David Jacob singled to score Martinez and Wisdom advanced to third.  Ryan Snyder followed with a ground out to score Wisdom from third to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Peter Cunningham singled in the fifth to score Ryan SnyderJustin Blechle hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to score JP Meyer and the Hawks had a 4-0 lead with Peterson cruising.

David Jacob singled home another run in the eighth inning to finish the game 4-for-5 with two RBI.  Brynn Martinez was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.  The Hawks had five runs on 14 hits while Jake Peterson held the Miners scoreless on two hits.


The Hawks advance to play fourth seeded Truman State University in the GLVC Championship Tournament tomorrow.  First pitch in Westfield, Ind. at Grand Park is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
