Indianapolis Tops Quincy in GLVC Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Quincy University men's tennis team fell to No. 24 the University of Indianapolis 5-0 on Friday (Apr. 17) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals. It was the first appearance for QU in the GLVC Championship Tournament since 2012. The Hawks were the fourth seed in the GLVC West Division facing the first seed in the GLVC East Division UIndy.

The Hawks (8-11) put pressure on the regionally-ranked second Greyhounds (13-3) in the first doubles match. Ian Hinkamper and Ethan Arns battled to an extended match, but fell 9-7 to the ninth ranked duo of Christoph Drechsler and Tony Kostadinov.

UIndy won the next two doubles matches 8-2 and 8-1 respectively.

Marco Razo and Fausto Cordova won the match for Indianapolis with wins in the fifth and sixth singles matches respectively. The match was called at 5-0 when the Greyhounds clinched the win.

Ian Hinkamper was unfinished in singles, but was tied with No. 8 Christoph Drechsler, 5-5, in the first set.

Michael Lesko trailed by one game, 6-5, in the fourth singles match when the match halted to remain unfinished.

The Greyhounds advance to the GLVC Championship Tournament Semifinals Saturday at 6 p.m. in Kansas City, Mo.
