Hawks Add Former NFL Lineman Cornell To Staff

QUINCY, Ill. – Quincy University football coach Tom Pajic announced Wednesday (March 11) the hiring of former National Football League player and Quincy Notre Dame product Jack Cornell to the coaching staff as an assistant offensive line coach.

A native of Quincy, Cornell will assist in all facets of the program, including recruiting, practice and game planning, and on-field coaching.

"We are excited to welcome Jack to our staff," said Pajic. "His experience in the NFL will be a great resource to our players. Jack brings instant credibility to our players with his lifelong experience in football. Certainly one of the most decorated football players to come out of the tri-state area, Jack will be a great asset to our program."

Cornell spent his prep career at Quincy Notre Dame High School, earning all-state honors twice before a five-year career at the University of Illinois where he made 19 starts at offensive guard.

Cornell signed as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens prior to the 2012 season and spent much of the season on the organization's practice squad. Cornell earned a Super Bowl ring for his role with the organization after the Ravens topped San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII. Cornell would then sign a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders for the 2013 season, spending time on the active roster and the practice squad.

"Jack will assist with our offensive line," Pajic said. "He will have an immediate impact on our players up front. They will have the opportunity to enhance their craft under the guidance of a former Division I athlete, who has experienced the game at the highest level."

The Hawks finished 6-5 last season – their first winning season since the 2008 campaign. QU opens spring practice March 25 at Flinn Stadium where it will conduct its full spring schedule while construction resumes on the $4 million renovation of QU Stadium.
